Nitori Group and XYZ Robotics Launch Robotic Unloading POC to Improve Warehouse Operations

Upload time: 2025-06-25

XYZ Robotics, Nitori Group, and Home Logistics have launched a robotic container unloading POC at Nitori’s Satte Distribution Center (DC). The project features RockyOne, a Mobile Manipulation Robot (MMR) developed by XYZ Robotics.

While automation has advanced in many logistics areas, container loading and unloading still rely heavily on manual labor. These tasks often involve repetitive heavy lifting in cramped and harsh conditions. Improving safety and reducing the physical strain in these areas has become a critical concern in the industry.

Managing High-Volume Unloading Challenges

Nitori Group, a renowned home furnishing company in Japan, handles approximately 155,000 TEUs of imported containers annually. A team of five to six associates currently handles the unloading of large volumes of furniture and household goods. In summer, container temperatures can rise significantly, adding further strain to the associates. To address these challenges, Home Logistics, Nitori’s logistics division, has turned to robotic automation for unloading tasks.

Enhancing Efficiency and Safety with Robotics

RockyOne uses advanced vision and motion planning technologies to identify and handle a wide range of SKUs. It operates reliably day and night, improving dock utilization and inventory turnover. In a high-volume warehouse workflow, this solution enhances operational efficiency and workplace safety.

This POC marks the first step in the collaboration between Home Logistics and XYZ Robotics. Moving forward, the two companies will explore further robotic automation. Their insights will help drive more efficient, sustainable, and employee-friendly logistics operations.
