Upload time: 2023-08-01

AL-M Structured Light 3D Camera is a newly released industrial 3D camera of XYZ Robotics. Designed for close-range robot guidance applications, AL-M camera is nimble and easy to deploy.

The camera supports both stationary mount and eye-in-hand mount. Being mounted on a robot arm, AL-M can always see every corner that the robot arm can reach, which makes it flexible enough to capture from the vantage point and guide the collision-free robot picking.

Powered by XYZ’s proprietary phase-shifting algorithm and blue LED projection, the eye-in-hand camera also ensures optimal image quality. When dealing with small objects or highly reflective items, AL-M camera excels in recognizing fine details and achieving precise 3D reconstruction. Therefore, the camera is adaptable to various parts, such as machined, unmachined, painted parts, and castings.

Featuring high precision and anti-reflective capability, AL-M camera is ideal for industrial random bin picking, assembly, and other industrial applications. Its IP65-rated water and dust resistance ensures unmatched performance even under the harshest working conditions.

Case Study

Challenges:

In an automotive welding workshop, there is a need for 3D vision to guide automated assembly of sheet metal parts. The parts are made of carbon steel, lightweight, thin, and have holes. Meanwhile, they are randomly piled in deep bins, which poses challenges for vision recognition and robot picking.

Our solutions:

  • Efficient and stable: 3D vision identifies randomly-piled parts within 3 seconds and guides collision-free robot picking from cluttered bins with ease.
  • Precise assembly: Paired with the point cloud matching algorithm, AL-M camera recognizes 3D poses of parts accurately, enabling precise placement for fine assembly work (0.5 mm).

Challenges:

A global automotive supplier requires 3D vision to guide the automated spherical hinge feeding for the following assembly. The incoming spherical hinges are randomly placed on the conveyor belt. They are thin, reflective, and come in multiple specifications. Their front and back sides are similar, which demands accurate vision recognition and picking.

Our solutions:

  • Flexible operation: AL-M camera can capture images more flexibly due to its nimble size (140 mm x 49 mm x 84 mm) and eye-in-hand mount.
  • Anti-reflection: AL-M distinguishes poses (front/back sides) of reflective parts accurately with a Z repeatability of ±1.5 mm and recognition accuracy of ≥ 99.9%.

AL-M Structured Light 3D Camera stands out by its nimble, precise, and anti-reflection features, perfectly suiting industrial applications that require high precision and flexibility. When combined with the latest 3D vision system XYZ Studio Max, the camera empowers robots to excel in diverse pick-and-place scenarios.
